Overview:
What Remains of the Fish explores the transformation of fish scales into 3D printing material by utilizing the inherent properties of fish scales found in Taiwan.

Background:
WhaAs an island surrounded by the sea, seafood has long been an essential part of Taiwan’s diet and culture. However, it is estimated that approximately 270,000 tons of fish processing residue are generated annually. While some by-products, such as entrails, are reused as fertilizers, a large portion of fish scales is discarded as waste, causing environmental impact. This project reframes fish scales not as residue, but as a valuable material resource, proposing a circular approach that converts marine waste into printable matter through material research and additive manufacturing.
